Black History parade announced for Feb. 25

ORANGE — This year’s Black History Month Parade will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, Feb. 25, and will start St. Paul Baptist Church on the corner of 14th and Link. Entrants may begin lining up at 10:15 a.m.

The NAACP’s Orange Branch is asking each church to have at least one entry in the parade and asks that all vehicles be decorated.

This year’s Grand Marshals will be Mrs. Bettie Curtis, for her contribution to the field of Education, along with Ms. Betty Wade and Ms. Doretha Robinson, for their contribution and years of service to the Orange Branch NAACP.

The parade will conclude at Joe Ware Plaza, where there will be a Black History Month program to include presentations from area youth and music. There will also be a special Black History Month Display by Tekoa Academy of Orange.

Booth spaces will be available for $25 and may be secured by contacting Forrest Spraggins at 409-330-5036.

At the conclusion of the Black History program, there will be free gumbo provided by the Texas Ranger Posse served at DJ’s, which is located on Simmons Drive in Orange.

A final organizational meeting for this year’s Parade will be held at 7 p.m., Tuesday, Feb. 21, at St. Paul Baptist Church, 1704 14th St. in Orange.
