Mobil Oil Federal Credit Union expands into Orange County

VIDOR — A credit union with a strong presence in Southeast Texas is expanding its reach into Orange County.

Mobil Oil Federal Credit Union held a groundbreaking ceremony Friday morning for its newest branch, which will be located in the 1100 block of North Main Street in Vidor. The new location in Orange County will be the eighth branch of Mobil Oil Federal Credit Union.

“We have wanted to be here, in Vidor, for a long time,” said Bob Hamer, president and CEO of Mobil Oil Federal Credit Union. “We have a lot of members who live east of Beaumont, and they have been asking us to come east so they don’t have to drive to Beaumont as often. We think this will be great for the community and for Mobil Oil Federal Credit Union.”

Hamer said the new branch will be a two-story building with similarities to the financial institution’s location on Delaware at North Major Drive in Beaumont, complete with a glass tower. The branch will also include four drive-through lanes when completed.

“We’ve already posted the jobs and we want to hire people from Vidor to work here,” Hamer added. “We want to get them on board as soon as possible and start their training. We’re excited about this and can’t wait to start serving the citizens of  Vidor.”

Robert Viator, Ward ... councilman for the City of Vidor, was equally excited about the arrival Mobil Oil Federal Credit Union and of a new business to the community.

“Any growth we have in the City of Vidor is a good thing,” Viator explained. “I know Vidor has a lot of members of Mobil Oil Federal Credit Union, and, with the traffic and construction going on at the (Neches River) bridge, this will benefit those members.”

Several new businesses have opened in the Vidor community in 2013, including James Brown’s Gumbo House and Grill, French Quarter Bar and Grill, and Woogie’s sandwich shop to name a few.

“I’m glad to see this property was purchased and will be put to good use,” Viator added. “It’s in a prime location and I’m glad it will add to our tax base too. Vidor is slowly growing and are doing things to make our community more business-friendly.”

Mobil Oil Federal Credit Union has grown considerably in recent years and now has branches across Southeast Texas. Along with its Beaumont locations at Delaware and North Major, on Treadway Road adjacent to U.S. Highway 69 and the one on Carroll Street near downtown, there are also branches in Nederland, Silsbee, Jasper and its newest location in Lumberton.
