Giving back one brick at a time

WEST ORANGE — Sometimes an idea sounds great.

Selling engraved bricks as a fundraiser, some for WO-S Project Graduation, sounded like a good way to raise funds for the events and bring the community together.

The question for many was what happened to the purchased bricks?

Then WO-S Alumni Foundation (WOSAF) started the Give Back Brick fundraiser.

President of the WOSAF Paul Thomas III said he was asked why.

“That is when I heard the stories about people wondering what happened to the bricks they purchased for other fundraisers,” Thomas said.

Thomas found the bricks from all the previous fundraisers.

“The bricks were in storage,” Thomas said. “I knew we needed to use them and we were given permission to use them around the flagpole.”

Memorial Day weekend students and alumni members worked together to set the bricks around the flagpole at WO-S High School.

WOSAF is creating a paved brick walkway at the high school that will outline the flag pole in front of the school according to the website.
