OISD seeks assistance with Wall of Honor

ORANGEFIELD — The Orangefield Independent School District and its athletic department are wanted to recognize a select group of distinguished Bobcats.

The Orangefield Athletic Department is in the early stages of creating a Wall of Honor to recognize athletes from the school district which have either qualified as “All-State” or have gone on to play college level sports.

“We’re just trying to establish something our athletes can be proud in,” said Josh Smalley, Orangefield ISD Athletic Director. “We want to give our current players something they can strive for.”

The new Wall of Honor is being built to replace one destroyed in a fire on the campus in the early-to-mid 1990s.

Smalley said the athletic department is seeking 8x10 photographs of former athletes of Orangefield High School who have met the above mentioned criteria.

“We are looking for pictures of these successful Bobcats in their uniforms,” he added. “The boys photos will be placed inside the new fieldhouse, while the girls photos will most likely be placed in the new gymnasium.”

Smalley is seeking help from the public to recreate this Wall of Honor.

“Most of the photos we had were either destroyed or damaged, so we need as much help from the public as we can get,” he continued.

Area residents with photos may drop them off at the Orangefield High School fieldhouse during school hours or contact Smalley by calling 409-735-4504 or e-mail at jsmalley@esc5.net.

“We’re just trying to re-establish some tradition in our programs,” Smalley said. “Not just football, but all sports, such as baseball, track and field and the others. Hopefully it will pay off.”
