The Orange Leader
Molly Turvil of the Orange County Child Support Office is retiring.
An item on the agenda for the Orange County Commissioners Court Monday 2 p.m. meeting concerned the discussion concerning the office will return on the agenda for next week.
“The Board of Judges are meeting noon Wednesday,” County Judge Carl Thibodeaux said. “They are meeting to discuss personnel issues for that office. Anything today would be pure speculation.”
Thibodeaux also said he wanted the commissioners aware.
The Orange County Child Support Office collects and remits payments, which were court ordered before January 1, 1994. Child support orders handled by the Attorney General's Office and private child support orders after January 1, 1994 are redirected to the Texas Child Support Disbursement Unit in San Antonio for payment processing according to the Orange County Child Support website.
Thibodeaux gave a report on the meeting with the Corp of Engineers last week.
“It was positive,” Thibodeaux said. “They were excited to have our study to protect Orange County.”
Thibodeaux said Orange County was the only county to have a feasible study done.
“They will incorporate out study into their study,” Thibodeaux said.
The Corp of Engineers is working on a three year, $3 million study which started Jan. 1, 2013.
The study is funded by the Corp of Engineers and General Land Office splitting the cost.
The court approved Road Damage Bonds from McCarthy Building Companies, Inc. and Century Exploration Houston, LLC.
McCarthy Building Companies, Inc. is to ensure that any road damage done while transporting a super heavy/oversize crane on Mansfield, Ferry and Church House Road would be repaired without any cost to the county.
“At one intersection they will extend the culvert out in order to make the corner,” County Engineer Carl Slacum said.
The bond for Century Exploration Houston, LLC. concerns the transporting a super heavy/oversize equipment on Lake View Road.
The court also approved advertising for bids for the landscaping for the Orange County Convention and Expo Center.
Other items on the agenda:
• Proclaim May as Elder Abuse Prevention Month.
