BRIDGE CITY — Motorists traveling through Bridge City on a daily basis may want to allow extra time for possible delays starting next week.

The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) will begin its much anticipated $9.5 million restoration project of the Cow Bayou Bridge on State Highway 87 in Bridge City on Tuesday, Feb. 4. The project, which will restore the approximately 73 year-old swing bridge back to working condition, was originally set to begin Jan. 27 but was delayed due to the recent weather related ice events.

There will be alternating lane closures for State Highway 87 between FM 1442 and State Highway 62 in Bridge City for repair work to Cow Bayou Bridge. The first round of lane closures will be from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., Tuesday, Feb. 4 through Thursday, Feb. 6. Closures are scheduled from 8 a.m. until noon, Friday, Feb. 7.

More closures will follow during the same time frames from Feb. 13 through Feb. 17, and Feb. 20 through Feb. 24.
