One person is dead and another injured following an early morning wreck Wednesday.
Two people were transported to Christus St. Elizabeth Hospital in Beaumont early Wednesday morning after the vehicle they were traveling in, a silver 1996 Lexus passenger vehicle, flipped over in what the Texas Department of Public Safety described as a single vehicle collision.
The Texas Department of Public Safety reports the vehicle was traveling west on Interstate 10 near mile marker 862, which is east of Vidor, shortly after 1:45 a.m., Wednesday, when the vehicle veered from the roadway “for an unknown reason,” according to the DPS report. The driver reportedly over-corrected and caused the automobile to roll over multiple times.
David Shelton, a 19-year-old man from Lake Charles, La., was taken by ambulance to the hospital where he later died from his injuries. The passenger, 29-year-old Edwarda Berry of Beaumont, remains in the hospital in stable condition with minor injuries.
Both Shelton and Berry were reported to be wearing their seat belts at the time of the crash. The wreck remains under investigation.
