Bridge City man killed in I-10 wreck

BEAUMONT — A Bridge City man was killed in a mid-afternoon wreck Saturday on Interstate 10 in Beaumont.

Traffic was at a near-stop for hours Saturday afternoon (Oct. 20, 2012), following a collision shortly before 3 p.m., Saturday on the Neches River Bridge near the Pine Street exit, that killed a man from Bridge City. Although authorities had not yet released the name late Saturday evening, numerous Facebook posts by Bridge City residents have identified the victim as Scott Curtis, 31.

The vehicle in which Curtis was in was driving west on Interstate 10 with his wife and child when another vehicle hit his car from behind.

According to a press release from the Beaumont Police Department, the investigation revealed that a 2004 Gray Toyota Corolla slowed for a previous wreck on Interstate 10 West. A black 2011 Ford F-350 struck the Corolla, knocking it into another vehicle. The Ford F-350 then struck two other trucks.

There were three people in the Corolla, a female driver, a one year old child in a rear facing car seat in the back and Curtis, who was also in the back seat by the child. Curtis died due to injuries he sustained in the crash.

The other passengers in the Corolla and all other vehicles did not have life threatening injuries.

Traffic remained at a snail's pace for more than three hours Saturday as both Interstate 10 West and its feeder road were backed up through Rose City and near Vidor.

The fatal collision remains under investigation and no charges have been filed at this time.
