ORANGE — A dream turns into reality for Carolyn Mello of Orange.

Mello had a dream February 9, 1984. The dream was so vivid she wrote it in her dream diary.

“I only kept the dream diary for two nights,” Mello said. “I wrote down four dreams and the book is one of the dreams.”

The book, Murder Once Removed, was released in September.

A screenplay has been optioned for a movie based on the manuscript.

“I was going to write a book and going to write a book,” Mello said. “I had so many excuses, like not having a computer or not having the right software program.”

While going to write a book stage, Mello gathered information for the book.

“When I said I was going to write 15 minutes a day,” Mello said, “I had gathered four years of information for the book.”

The story is based in Orange and while a work of fiction, residents of the area will recognize locations mentioned in the book.

“The characters and events of the story are all imaginary,” Mello said.

Mello, a former  college instructor, has also wrote, produced, directed and performed in “The Misadventures of Handsome and Grumble in London-land,” which was presented at the Hampstead Brittania in London as well as currently owns a home based business, One on One Tax Service.

She earned a bachelor’s degree in English from Lamar University and masters from McNeese State University.

A book lauching with a ribbon cutting will be held 4 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 18, at the Greater Orange Area Chamber of Commerce located at the corner of Green Avenue and Tenth in Orange.
