Lutcher Theater has 3 more events on tap for summer

ORANGE — The Lutcher Theater will be anything but quiet this summer.

The Lutcher Theater for the Performing Arts will have a busy summer schedule with three more events on tap in the coming weeks.

The smash-hit musical, The Addams Family, will conclude the regularly scheduled 2012-2013 Lutcher Theater season with performances at 7:30 p.m., Wednesday, June 19 and Thursday, June 20. Tickets are $35-$65 at or by calling the box office at 409-886-5535.

This original story featuring the wacky, but lovable members of The Addams Family, including Gomez, Morticia, Uncle Fester, Pugsley, Wednesday, Grandma and Lurch, will delight fans of all ages.

Wednesday Addams has grown up and has fallen in love with a “normal” boy, but she doesn’t want her father to tell her mother. And here’s where the fun begins.

A new addition to the summer schedule is a return engagement by Riders in the Sky, the purveyors of ‘Comedy and Western.’

Riders in the Sky will perform at 3 p.m., Sunday, July 14, in a spectacular event that’s loaded with wacky humor, way-out Western wit and great music. Tickets are $20-$30 at the box office and online.

The group has been a force in the genre for more than 30 years, but is arguably most well known for its hit song, “Woody’s Roundup,” from the Disney-Pixar movie, “Toy Story 2.”

Classic rock fans can rejoice with the final addition for the summer.

A Band Called Honalee will perform “A Tribute to the Music of Peter, Paul and Mary” at 7:30 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 7. Tickets are $20-$25 and on sale now online and at the Lutcher Theater box office.

The trio of artists deliver a “fresh take” on the music of Peter, Paul and Mary, according to a press release, but also deliver stunning performances of material by artists Bob Dylan, The Byrds, The Mamas and the Papas, Joan Baez, Pete Seeger and many more.

“This is just a great schedule for our summer and some wonderful additions to close out the season,” said Jim Clark, director of the Lutcher Theater for the Performing Arts. “It’s been 24 years since we last had Riders in the Sky perform at the Lutcher, and they are so amazing. It’s real cowboy music.

“I’ve always wanted to present Peter, Paul and Mary, but we were to small of a hall for them,” Clark explained. “I always admired Peter, Paul and Mary and I knew their music before The Beatles and those artists. A Band Called Honalee is a great group and it’s a fun show, so I think our patrons will be excited.”

Clark said both shows are touring through Texas this summer and contacted the Lutcher Theater for “add on” shows to their routing.

While the current season will continue well into summer, the announcement for the forthcoming season may only be days away.

“We should have the information for the new season ready to announce very soon,” Clark said. “We’ve had to make some adjustments, but it’s about ready. We think people will be very pleased with some new, exciting productions and the return of some popular events as well.”

The Lutcher Theater for the Performing Arts is located at 707 Main in Orange. Contact the theater staff at 409-886-5535 or visit for more information on these upcoming events.
