OCP brings back the nuns

ORANGE — The Orange County Players (OCP) dedicated this season to the late Jeff Hattman, who passed away suddenly in early May 2012. Hattman had been part of the Orange Community Players since its inception in the 1950s and the last charter board member of the group.

The final event of the season will touch many as Dianna Hill steps in for the departed Hattman to direct the final installment of “Nunsense: A-Men” in May 2013.

“Jeff started the ‘Nunsense’ shows at OCP several years ago, and she directed everyone of them,” Codie Vasquez of the Orange Community Players said in a previous Orange Leader article “We decided to go ahead and do it for her. It will be a great way to dedicate our season to Jeff.”

Hill has been a part of OCP for many years and helped start the Children’s Theater with the group.

“It is almost one year ago that we lost Jeff,” Hill said. “It is as if she is directing me from up there.”

Hill said she will always recall one of Hattman’s favorite sayings to her, ‘I taught you everything you know, but not everything I know’.

Hattman lent a hand to the production by selecting the musical director for the show before she passed on.

Nunsense A-Men!, a spin-off from the Nunsense series by Dan Goggin, is portrayed by a male cast.

The show is dedicated to Jeff Hattman and stars Kevin Doss, Doug Rogers, Paul Burch, Justin Sanders and Jonathan McCollum.

The performances are at 7:37 p.m. Saturday May, 9, 10, 11, 16, 17, 18 with a matinee 2:37 p.m. Sunday, May 12 and 19 at OCP located at 708 West Division Ave in Orange. Tickets available at the door are $15 for adults and $8 for students. For reservations call 409-882-9137.
