Local author hosts book launch gala

LITTLE CYPRESS — Award-winning author Elizabeth Ludwig announces a book launch and awards celebration gala in honor of her Edge of Freedom series.

Ludwig, Secretary to the Little Cypress-Mauriceville Superintendent, is holding the book gala 3 p.m. - 7 p.m. Monday, November 18 at the Little Cypress-Mauriceville CISD Administration Board Room, 6586 FM 1130.

“I am excited,” Ludwig said. “The first two books were planned as originally it was a two book series. I was asked to expand the series to a trilogy. This one was the most fun to write.”

Ludwig is not sure if the enjoyment came from feeling a kinship with the main character, Tillie, or because the book was not planned.

During the author chat portion of the event, Ludwig will talk about writing and her unique blend of historical fiction and romantic suspense.

Ludwig’s Edge of Freedom series gives readers an intriguing glimpse into the lives of Irish immigrants to America in the 1800s. The last book in the series, Tide and Tempest, will be featured at the gala, with a cover reveal and the debut of the novel’s book trailer.

“The event is longer than a normal book launch because we wanted to give people a chance to attend according to their schedules,” Ludwig said.

It’s been two years since Tillie McGrath last saw Captain Keondric Morgan. He’d let her visit her ill fiancé before he died. Now the dashing captain has found her at the boarding house where she lives and has swept back into her life. But all is not well. He seems to be trying to protect her - from whom or what stays a secret.

Even years later, Keondric never forgot the heartbroken lass from his boat. When a crewmember’s death-bed confession hints that her fiancé’s death may have been murder, the captain knows he must try to save her. But his attention draws the notice of others as well, dangerous men who believe Tillie may have the last bit of evidence needed to put them away. And trying to stay safe may put them both in more danger than they could have ever imagined.

Ludwig will speak about the writing journey and offer tips for inspiring young writers.

Ludwig said her goal when she started writing Inspirational Fiction is to entertain, encourage and inspire.

“Research is so important when writing historical novels,” Ludwig said. “It makes writing longer, but it is so worth it. I would rather get it right than be told after the book is out that I got it wrong.”

Ludwig said that on the first page of the first book in the series a ship is mention. A reader contacted her because the reader was impressed that upon research the ship really did exist.

“If I hadn’t done that research, she may never have read any further,” Ludwig said.

Ludwig is an award-winning author, accomplished speaker and teacher. Her historical novel Love Finds You in Calico, California earned four stars from RT Book Reviews. She is the owner and editor of the popular literary blog The Borrowed Book.

The first book of her newest trilogy, “No Safe Harbor,” has just been named as the September Fiction Book of the Month at The Book Club Network, and the second book, “Dark Road Home,” is in the number three spot.

Both books will be featured in the November issue of “Book Fun Magazine,” and the third in her most recent trilogy, Tide and Tempest, will be out in 2014.
