There’s a fever going on with Southeast Texas Mardi Gras this year. “Island Fever.”
The 2014 Southeast Texas Mardi Gras celebration will kick-off this Thursday in downtown Port Arthur and the theme for this year’s event is “Island Fever.” While the actually temperatures may be a bit mild, the music is going to be hot.
Music abounds with the opening on Thursday as The Stark Experiment and JAG perform on the Main Stage, while local rock outfit Angel Siren and Underground Kids perform on the Gold Stage. Night Raiders and Lamar Section 51 can be found on the Green Stage.
Friday night is always a big night at Mardi Gras and this year is no exception as Robert Earl Keen headlines the Main Stage at 10 p.m. Opening the show for Keen is the highly touted local country act, American Sons. Bat will perform on the Gold Stage at 6 p.m. and Knotch is on tap at the Green Stage at 9 p.m.
The Casey Donahew Band will headline the Main Stage on Saturday, March 1 at 10 p.m. Other acts performing include Harrison Swift, Lil’ Wayne and Same Ole’ 2 Step, and the Port Arthur Playboys. A variety of music will be featured on the Green Stage, including the Underground Kids at 9 p.m. Local rapper Supa is scheduled, as are Courageous and Shon Branham will start the music at 2 p.m.
The four day event will come to a close on Sunday, March 2 with Travis Matte and the Kingpins headlining the Main Stage at 6:30 p.m. Also performing is local variety group, Champagne Room. Crossroads will close the day out on the Green Stage and the Time Travel Band will perform at 2 p.m.
