Health Scores

ORANGE — Several businesses in Orange County are in need of obtaining the annual Food Service Permit as evident in this week’s health scores.

Kotoyama, located at 2226 MacArthur Drive in Orange, received an 85 out of a possible 100 during a recent inspection. The restaurant received demerits for not having a required Food Service Permit as well as not having hot water at the hand-washing station at the sushi station. Other demerits include the need to date all foods inside the coolers and freezers and boxes of food being stored on the floor inside the walk-in cooler/freezer.

Best Price Motel, located at 2610 Interstate 10 West in Orange, also formally known as Ramada Inn, received an 87 health score. Demerits are for the need to have a Food Manager on staff and the a required Food Service Permit. Other demerits were for the water at the sinks was warm and not reaching hot temperatures.

Lone Star Grocery located at 3665 North Main Street in Vidor also received an 87. Demerits included several gnats found at the dish sink s well as mice feces found in the storage cabinets. The establishment also did not have a the required Food Service Permit.

The need to have a Food Manager on staff and the a required Food Service Permit lead to the 88 score for The Falls Grocery/Meats located at 1914 South Main Street in Vidor. Other demerits include spider webs found inside the meat market cutting room.

Exxon Food Mart #1 located at 7120 Interstate 10 West in McLewis always received demerits for the need to have a Food Manager on staff and the a required Food Service Permit as well as taco meat and fajita chicken at unsafe temperatures. The score was 89.

Cans of Red-Bull found inside the ice machine lead to 7-Eleven located at 527 State Hwy. 87 in Orange to a health score of 89. Other demerits included not having a required Food Service Permit  as well as the need to have the store name and address on all bags of ice sold.

Delta Food Mart located at 705 Texas Ave. in Bridge City received  91 out of a possible 100 for storing chemicals above pet food and paper goods. Mold was also found on the drink dispensers and slushi machines. The establishment was also noted for not having a required Food Service Permit.

Burger King located at 605 North Main Street in Vidor received a 91 health score for repairs needed for the walk-in freezer door as well as areas in the kitchen in need of being cleaned as well as not having a required Food Service Permit.

An employee’s drink was found inside the reach-in cooler at Paradise Donuts located at 2875 Texas Ave. Suite B in Bridge City leading to a score of 93. The business also was noted for not having a required Food Service Permit.

M & S Grocery located at 10876 Farm to Market Road 1130 in Orange was in need of the store name and address on all bags of ice sold as well as not having a required Food Service Permit. The score was 93.

Subway #51959 located at 2496 MLK Drive in Orange  and Sleep Inn and Suites located at 2245 State Hwy. 62 in Orange each received a 94 for the need to have a Food Manager on staff and the a required Food Service Permit.

Neches Grocery located at 3035 Farm to Market Road 11130 in Vidor, Suzie’s Concessions located at 985 North Main Street in Vidor, The Shrimp Boat located at 18606 State Hwy. 62 in Orange, Super Food Mart located at 1519 37th Street in Orange and Exxon Food Mart #2 located at 6892 Farm to Market Road 1130 in Orange all received a 97 for the need to have the a required Food Service Permit.

The following locations had zero violations and received a perfect score of 100:

• Dairy Queen

11785 North State Hwy. 62 in Mauriceville.

• Kimbo’s Concessions

Mobile Unit in Mauriceville.

The following locations passed a pre-opening inspection:

• Once Upon A Time Child Care

2825 Texas Ave. in Bridge City

• Lighthouse Kidz Kampus Day Care

111 West Pine Street in Orange.
