ORANGE — Sabrina Gray is not wasting any time.

The new events coordinator for the Orange County Convention and Expo Center has already booked the first event.

“This is brand new for the county,” Gray said. “I am getting to know the building and the capabilities. I am super excited.”

The building, which also doubles as a shelter of last resort for emergency personnel in the case of a disaster such as a hurricane, was funded by grants and private donations.

The building is Phase I of the complex with the next phases including baseball fields and an area for a rodeo.

“There is no other center like it in Orange County,” Gray said. “It is the largest and has so much potential.”

Gray gained experience as an event planner when she had a retail florist shop in the area and as former president of the Greater Orange Area Chamber of Commerce.

“As a florist, I helped with many weddings,” Gray said. “I am very detailed orientated. Planning is in my nature.”

Gray is looking forward to bringing in events to the center.

“This is a great tool for Orange County to bring in commerce and tourism,” Gray said. “It is a benefit to Orange County.”

Gray is already contacting people who expressed an interest in holding an event at the facilities located at 11475 FM 1442 in Orange.

“We have very talented and qualified persons in Orange County,” Gray said.

Besides the Ballroom, the center also offers two meeting rooms.

Gray said part of her duties will be to bring the vendors of Orange County to the table while coordinating the events.

“We are glad to work with each event and open to what it entails,” Gray said. “We can hold a large event up to 600 or smaller meeting settings. We are also currently offering private tours for individuals or groups.”
