Changes for Ford Lane

ORANGE — A citizens request to raise the speed limit on Ford Lane in Orange will proceed with a public hearing next week.

The speed limit in the 560 feet long road is currently 10 miles per hour, set ion July of 1999.

“If I recall correctly, that was requested years ago due to a disabled child,” Commissioner Pct. 1 David Dubose said Monday.

Legislation states now that the lowest the speed limit can be set at is 20 miles per hour.

Assistant County Attorney Douglas E. Manning said that special provisions can in the case of a disabled child.

Ford Lane is a dead-end road with eleven homes. The request is to change the speed  limit to 20 miles per hour.

In other court business, the court renewed an annual Interlocal Agreement between the City of West Orange and Orange County. The only change to the contract this year is the contract is now a perpetual renewal agreement until the city or county decide to terminate it.

The county judge was authorized to enter into an agreement with the Texas Department of Public Safety for the 2013 Homeland Security Grant Program Sub-Recipient Award for Orange County.

“This is the standard agreement every year,” Emergency Management Jeff Kelley said. “This is the grant for the radios or radio related items.”

The county judge was also authorized to enter into an agreement for the 2014 Routine Airport Maintenance Grant. This is an annual grant with a 50/50 match.

Tax Assessor-Collector Lynda Gunstream gave a 2012 Tax Year End Report showing the tax collection for the year was at 96.9%.

The certification of the 2013 delinquent tax rolls shows approximately $3 million.

The paying of bills was approved for a total of $270,631.13.

Commissioner Pct. 2 Owen Burton was absent from Monday morning’s meeting.
