Call it a carnival redo.
After days of intermittent rain showers, and a deluge during lunch hour this past Friday, the organizing committee of the Orange Lions Club Carnival have opted to extend the carnival another week to accommodate fans of the carnival after having to cancel the event this past Friday and Saturday.
“We had a river running through the carnival grounds on Friday, so that is why we canceled the carnival on Friday night, and it was still too wet out there on Saturday,” said Chris Kovatch, Lions Carnival chairperson. “Safety is our number one concern, and we did not want anyone to have a bad experience.”
Since the charity carnival lost two operation days, organizers met Saturday morning and voted to extend the carnival an extra week.
“We are adding another week to the carnival,” Kovatach continued. “It’s almost like this past week never happened. (Today) will be like our opening day was on October 2nd. We will be accepting one canned good per person in lieu of an admission fee, and Saturday (Oct. 12) will be our Kiddie Day like this past Saturday should have been.”
The carnival will now run from Wednesday, Oct. 9 through Saturday, Oct. 12, and Wednesday, Oct. 16 through Saturday, Oct. 19. The carnival is open from 6:30 p.m. - 10 p.m. each Wednesday and Thursday, and from 6:30 p.m. - 11 p.m., each Friday and Saturday, except on Kiddie Day which is when the carnival will open at 4 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 12.
“It’s much nicer at the park now that it has had time to dry,” Kovatch added. “We pulled out the mulch we had placed before the carnival open and we had to dig some holes to help with drainage. But the grounds are ready to go and we know it is going to be nice weather for a few days, so we’re excited.”
