WO High School grads remember the past

WEST ORANGE — The school may be gone but the graduates have not forgotten.

West Orange High School existed between 1956-1977. The first graduating class was in 1958. Each year since 2006, a reunion is held at Mike Trahan’s residence on the third Saturday in April for all the graduating classes. There is a deck where the class celebrating the 50th reunion for that class sits so all others know who was in that class. This year the class of 1963 held the honor.

The event on Saturday experienced beautiful weather and with the large Oak trees one almost forgot they were in West Orange.

“We couldn’t have had a better day if we had ordered it special,” Pam Montgomery Pugh, class of 1966, said.

Pugh said she attended the first and maybe the second reunion after she graduated but this was her first time to attend since the location changed to Trahan’s place.

“It is beautiful here,” Pugh said. “I looked at my annuals so I would be able to recognize people, but it did not help.”

Last year the reunion had 250 in attendance. There were over 300 this year with at least one person from each graduating class.

A volunteer said that last year there was one person from the class of 1971 and this year there were at least 17 from that class.
