ORANGE — First Appreciation Service

Garage sale

The Fraternal Order of Eagles, 803 N. 28th Street, has scheduled a garage sale from 8 a.m. - 1 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 26. It will be held inside with large items displayed outside. Pool tournament

Mardi Gras Parade

The Krewe of Krewe’s Mardi Gras Parade will be held in downtown Orange on Saturday, Feb. 2. If you would like to participate and have a float in the parade, please call the Greater Orange Area Chamber of Commerce at 409-883-3536. Entry fee is $100. Application deadline is Jan. 23. Mandatory drivers meeting at 5:30 p.m., Jan. 29.



BC Chamber Banquet

The Bridge City Chamber of Commerce will hold its 53rd Annual Taste of the Bayou Banquet at 6 p.m, Monday, Jan. 14 inside the Bridge City Community Center, 105 Parkside Drive. Bill Faye to Speak

Bill Faye, author of “Share Jesus Without Fear,” will be the guest speaker and trainer at Little Cypress Baptist Church, 3274 Little Cypress Drive on Sunday, Jan. 13. He will preach at the 10:30 a.m. morning service and lead a seminar from 5 p.m. - 7 p.m. that evening. The public is invited.



Retired teachers

Retired Teachers of Orange County will meet at 11 a.m., Monday, Jan. 14 at Wesley United Methodist Church, 401 37th St. in Orange. Guest speaker is John Paschall of Southeast Texas Better Business Bureau. January hostess will provide light lunch following meeting.



Retired Senior Citizens

The Orange County Retired Senior Citizens will meet at 9:30 a.m., Monday, Jan. 14 at The Salvation Army Bldg. on MLK and Strickland. All members are urged to attend. Student Tax Talks

Lamar State College-Orange, in partnership with H&R Block, will offer FREE information program regarding income tax related issues with emphasis on Student Education Benefits from 6:30 p.m. - 8 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 24, inside Room 125 of the Wilson Building, 506 Green Ave. in Orange. Topics include child credit for students who are parents, new tax laws, healthcare reform, education related tax savings, working teenagers as dependents and more. Seating is limited. Green Thumb Series

The Texas A&M AgriLife Extension of Orange County is offering Green Thumb  Series training being held at St. Mary Catholic School. Community Trash Off

The 18th Annual Community Trash Off will be held from 8 a.m. - 1 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 9. Participants will meet at Orange Lions Den Park. Teams consist of 3-5 participants and are limited to adults and children age 12 and older. All teams must be supervised by an adult. GED Test Dates

Vidor ISD announces that GED tests are changing beginning in January 2014. Those who are currently working on the test process must complete it in 2013 or start the process over from the beginning. The 2013 test dates for GED at the AIM Center High School are Jan. 23 and Jan. 24, Feb. 20 and Feb. 21, and March 20 and March 21. Dates are subject to change, and more dates will be held each following month, so check with the testing centers at 951-8780. Examinees are expected to arrive on time. Testing begins promptly at 4:30 p.m. Doors will be locked at that time. Tutoring for the GED is also available in Vidor ISD. Call AIM Center High School for further information.



Open House

Trout release

The Orange County Parks Department announces the trout release at Claiborne West Park on Thursday Feb. 7. Approximately 500 trout will be released each day. Park hours are 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day. A fishing license and stamp are required. For more information call 409-745-2255.



Fundraiser

The American Legion Post 49, 108 Green Avenue, Orange, will hold a plate lunch fundraiser from 11 a.m. - 2 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 14. The Cost is $8. The meal will consist of brisket, link, potato salad, beans, bread and dessert. Walk-ins are welcome and delivery is available. Orders and deliveries will be taken between noon, Wed., Feb. 13, and 9 a.m. Thurs. Feb. 14. Call 409-886-1241 to place an order.
