Vidor man arrested on drug charges

ORANGE — A Vidor man was arrested earlier this week on drug charges in the middle of attempting to inject himself with an illegal substance, according to law enforcement.

Shane Lane Hite of Vidor was arrested Tuesday afternoon in the parking lot of the Crawdad’s convenience store, located at the corner of FM 1442 and Interstate 10 East service road, and charged with possession of a controlled substance.

Law enforcement personnel with the Orange County Sheriff’s Office Narcotics Unit were leaving the restaurant inside the store, the Moz Grill, and were walking to their unmarked vehicle when one of the deputies saw Hite sitting in the passenger seat of a white Dodge truck next to the deputy’s vehicle.

The deputy looked through the open driver’s side window and saw Hite, 42, with a syringe “filled with a white liquid and was about to inject” himself with the contents into his right forearm. Upon seeing the deputy, Hite said “what’s up?” The deputy had Hite exit the vehicle and placed him in handcuffs as the deputy believed the syringe to contain Hydromorphone.

According to drugs-forum.com, Hydromorphone is a semi-synthetic opioid that is used in the relief of pain. Also known as Dilaudid and Palladone, among others, it is used recreationally for its euphoric properties as it is a powerful opiate drug capable of “producing extreme euphoria and blissful apathy.”

Hite was transported to the Orange County Correctional Facility and his bond has been set at $2,500.

Sheriff Keith Merritt asks anyone with information about any criminal activity in the county to contact the Orange County Sheriff’s Office at 409-883-2612 as his office continues to diligently combat the drug activities in all areas of Orange County.
