He serves as Director of the National Wildlife Association, the LadyBird Johnson Wildflower Center and both Texas Regional Bancshares, Inc., and Texas State Bank. Additionally, Umphrey helped build the new Sheila and Walter Umphrey Law Center on the banks of the Brazos River at Baylor University, which is hailed as a state-of-the-art educational facility, and one of the newest cancer institutes in Southeast Texas was named the Walter Umphrey Cancer Center.

He has received numerous professional awards, including being recognized as a Fellow of the International Society of Barristers, one of The Best Lawyers in America from 2003-2012, a previous Martindale Hubbell® AV Preeminent® rating and a Thomson Reuters Business Texas Super Lawyer, an honor only five percent of the lawyers in the state are selected for annually, from 2003-2012.

The Beaumont and Orange American Red Cross Chapters are responsible for helping citizens in 11 Southeast Texas counties prepare for, respond to and recover from disasters. According to the organization, “American Red Cross requests your help in making sure families in Southeast Texas receive assistance in their time of need, and this event is the single biggest fundraising effort for both chapters this year. Your attendance will assist American Red Cross in the nearly 70,000 disasters we have each year. Your American Red Cross needs you now!”

For more than 40 years, Provost Umphrey’s mission has remained to seek justice for those suffering from a personal injury, wrongful death or other legal wrong across Texas and nationwide through their lawyers in Beaumont and Houston, Little Rock, Ark. and Nashville, Tenn.
