ORANGE — United Steel Workers Union agreed to return to work without a contract Tuesday.

An offer to return to work was offered by the workers on strike according to Lynne Hancock, spokesperson for the union.

“We are waiting for a response from Firestone,” Hancock said Wednesday.

Members of United Steel Workers Union Local No. 13836 went on strike at noon last Monday at the Orange location after contract negotiations failed over concerns with a new healthcare package.

Firestone Polymers, LLC issued a press release stating the company is encouraged by this action, and are now in negotiations with union leadership regarding conditions for the 125 impacted employees to return to work.

The company also said it remains committed to achieving a contract that is in the best interest of teammates represented by the local union, allows our company to compete in the global marketplace, and helps to ensure the short-term and long-term profitability of the company according to the press release,
