Public invited to annual Charity Fair fundraiser and dance

PINEHURST — A local organization with a tradition of helping others is holding kick-off event to start the fundraising for another worth-while organization.

The Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 2523 will hold its annual Charity Fair event from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday, March 15, at the Eagles Nest, located 803 N. 28th St. in Pinehurst. This event will feature a live auction, 50/50 split the pot tickets, cake walk, raffle tickets for a Cannon Challenger gun safe, scratch-off tickets, food and more.

This year’s organization which the Fraternal Order of Eagles will assist is the Cancer Therapy and Research Center, which is based in San Antonio, Texas, and is part of the University of Texas Health Science Center.

According to its official website, the mission of the Cancer Therapy and Research Center is to conquer cancer through research, prevention and treatment. The organization strives to be one of the world’s premier cancer research and treatment centers dedicated to the development of novel therapies, compassionate and comprehensive care, outreach to the diverse communities it serves, prevention of disease and promotion of wellness, and an uncompromising commitment to understanding the complex nature of cancer, its causes and consequences.

“It’s a great organization for us to be associated with and do our part,” said Nancy Brown. “It’s important to us, as an organization, but it is also important to me. I’ve lost nearly everyone in my family to cancer.”

The Charity Fair is only one part of the annual event, as the Charity Dance is when the real fun begins.

Performing at this year’s Charity Dance event is the talented area country music group, B.B. and Company, which features Orange-native Britt Godwin and, his country cohort, Bubba Moore. The dance is from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m., Saturday, March 15, at the Veterans of Foreign Wars Hall, 4402 Louisiana 12 in Starks, La. Admission is $5 per person at the door for the Saturday night dance.

“The Fraternal Order of Eagles motto is simple. We are people helping people,” Brown added. “That’s our goal and it is what we do.”
