WO council approves fundraising event

WEST ORANGE — It’s time to play some ragball.

The West Orange Volunteer Fire Department is hosting a ragball tournament 8 a.m. Sat. Aug. 31 across from the West Orange -Stark High School.

“This is a fundraiser for the department,” Randy Veitch said during the West Orange City Council meeting Monday evening. “We will all be in West Orange so we are not jeopardizing the city.”

Veitch also said that twelve entries are expected for the tournament.

One of the players will be Justin Veitch, 11, and Randy’s son.

“He loves playing,” Veitch said. “He plays against the adults.”

Veitch also said the city of West Orange always provides the department with everything they need.

“I have no complaints against the city as they make sure we have top line stuff,” Vietch said. “This is so we can get things we want.”

The tournament is expected to last approximately twelve hours and the winning team receive champion T-shirts.

The council also approved a resolution request by South East Texas Regional Planning Commission (SETRPC) requesting the Texas Department of Transportation restore Congestion Mitigation and Air Quality Improvement funding. The funding would allow for implementation of projects recently selected by the South East Texas Regional Planning Commission - Metropolitan Planning Organization.
