Christmas parade is Friday, marshal announced

ORANGE — The biggest Christmas parade of the year takes place this Friday night in Orange.

The Orange Jaycees annual Christmas Parade will be held at 6:30 p.m., Friday, Dec. 7. The parade entrants will lineup in the parking lot of the old Sears location on MacArthur Drive and travel east to Green Avenue into downtown Orange, where the parade route will conclude at Fourth Street.

In 2011, more than 100 entries helped to make the parade a huge success. Floats, vehicles and trailers were decorated in colorful lights and holiday music echoed through the streets.

The Orange Jaycees also announced the Grand Marshall of the 2012 parade will be Robert L. “Bob” Williams.

Williams was a councilman for the City of Pinehurst for approximately 13 years. He was also the Citizen of the Year in 1987, and has served on numerous advisory boards and committees throughout the years. He was also vice-president of the Chamber of Commerce for two years and served as president for a short time.

This year’s theme is “Cajun Christmas,” so, as parade chairperson Niki Monceaux said in a previous interview, “expect this year’s parade to have a Mardi Gras feel to it.”

The Orange Jaycees are still accepting entries into the parade. Entry forms are available at R & R Auto Supply on MacArthur Drive, Artcraft Printing on Western Avenue and at the Greater Orange Area Chamber of Commerce at the corner of 10th Street and Green Avenue.

The parade is not being canceled even though the West Orange-Stark Mustangs will have a game on Friday night. In the event of bad weather, the parade will be rescheduled to the following Friday, Dec. 14.

Call Niki Monceaux at 409-221-0801 for more information.
