The Lutcher Theater’s 2013-2014 season has been announced and ticket packages are available now.
Season ticket packages for the 2013-2014 Lutcher Theater for the Performing Arts “Red Hot” season are on sale now and can be purchased online at www.lutcher.org or by calling the Lutcher Theater at 409-886-5535.
“We name every season at the Lutcher Theater and the fact we have some real music events we would brand as rock music is what led us to call it ‘red hot,’” said Jim Clark, managing director of the Lutcher Theater. “Several of these events date back to the 1950s, so that is where we were going with that theme. It’s a term that was used back then to describe rock music.”
According to Clark, various packages for season subscriptions including two Premiere Package options offering 10 to 15 shows are available.
The Spotlight Saver Package, which offers patrons a package of four or more events, is also available allowing patrons the opportunity to create their own combination package. This package ranges in price from only $70 to $260 per person, depending on seat location and show selection.
The Broadway Package, which generally consists of four to seven shows annually, includes six of this year’s shows since they are National Broadway tours and are slated for multiple performances, with four of them scheduled for matinees.
“Package shows really let people pick out some good shows and good seats and, depending on the package, you can really save some money,” he added. “You can really make it affordable to do what you want by purchasing a package. It’s a great way to guarantee your seats and shows at all once.”
This season will offer patrons a dynamic variety of Broadway classic productions as well as more modern Broadway-era hits and music and entertainment.
Events on tap for this year include Aaron Neville on Sept. 26, followed by two presentations of Disney’s “Beauty and the Beast” on Oct. 22 and Oct. 23. “Beyond Glory,” featuring Stephen Lang, will appear on Nov. 5.
The holiday season gets an early start with Dr. Seuss’ “How the Grinch Stole Christmas” with two showings on Nov. 16, while “Memphis,” the musical, will be available for three performances on Nov. 22 and Nov. 23.
If you missed his showcase in 2012, then you have an opportunity for redemption to see the amazingly talented and funny Shoji Tabuchi for a true holiday experience on Dec. 14. Then, the thrilling Broadway musical “American Idiot,” based on the rock band Green Day’s rock opera of the same name, arrives on Dec. 16.
The New Year arrives with the laugh riot with comedians Dan St. Paul, Tim Bedore, Kelly McDonald and Milt Abel in “Four Stand-Up Dads” on Jan. 3, 2014. Then, on Jan. 30, 2014, it’s Australia’s “Rock Stars of the Opera,” The Ten Tenors on Broadway.
The Tony Award winning Broadway musical “Million Dollar Quartet” will make a great Valentine’s Day present with three shows on Feb. 14 and Feb. 15, 2014, while the story of “The Miracle Worker” comes to life on the Lutcher Theater stage on March 7, 2014.
“Parsons Dance” arrives in Orange for a showcase on March 14, 2014, while Emmy-award winning actress Sally Struthers brings “Hello Dolly!” to the Lutcher stage on March 26 and March 27.
Patrons can enjoy the dynamic production of classic Broadway musical, “West Side Story,” for three performances on April 11 and April 12, 2014 before seeing the final production of the season, humorist Jeanne Robertson on April 17, 2014.
“It’s very exciting because we have a lot of matinee performances this year,” Clark explained. “We’ve had a lot of requests for those performances, as we have four matinee events, so we really need people to turn out. In order for us to get a matinee, we have to book three shows over two days and that can be a bit of a challenge sometimes.
“We are also excited because this is the first time ever to have comedy at the Lutcher,” he continued. “These events featuring The Four Stand-Up Dads and Jeanne Robertson are really funny. It’s good, clean comedy. Plus it’s really affordable.”
No Lutcher Theater season can be complete without its always fabulous array of children’s productions, and this year is no different. The 2013-2014 Lutcher Incredible Kids Events include Lightwire Theater’s “The Ugly Duckling,” “ArcAttack,” “Stuart Little,” “Romeo and Juliet,” “We’re Going on a Bear Hunt,” “The Great Mountain,” “I Am Jack,” “Dino-Light” and “The Snail and the Whale.”
