Triangle Trade Days to open in time for holidays

VIDOR — Signs of potential economic growth are all around Vidor.

New businesses have found their way to Vidor in recent months, such as Shipley Donuts and Modica Bros., and the recent legal option election which was approved by voters to allow alcohol sales in the city limits could possibly add to that list. However, it is a new venture set to open the day after Thanksgiving which could really bring a boost to tax revenue.

Triangle Trade Days will officially open this Friday and continue through Sunday in the 500 block of South Street, which is the Interstate 10 Eastbound feeder road and is east of Old Highway 90. The event, which is reportedly going to be comparable to events such as Orange Trade Days, Bridge City Trade Days and Winnie Trade Days, also known as Larry’s Old Time Trade Days.

“This is something we have been talking about doing for a while, but only recently decided to give it a try,” said Terry Woodard, property owner and event organizer. “People are really interested in events like these and a lot of people travel a long way to go to the ones in Winnie and Orange, and even the one that just opened in Kountze. Our location along the Interstate makes it easy for people to get here and to leave.”

Triangle Trade Days will be held indoors in a remodeled 8,000 square foot facility and will feature an array of vendors offering arts, crafts, antiques and more.

“From talking with some of these vendors, there are some of them offering some really interesting stuff,” Woodard said with a laugh. “This is not the regular stuff you are going to see at Wal-Mart or Target either.”

Woodard said the response from vendors interested in obtaining a space for the event and from the community has been strong and he hopes it remains so after the event opens next week.

Unlike other trade day events, Woodard plans on keeping the Triangle Trade Days event open every weekend and is even offering vendors permanent spots at the event which will be locked and security provided during non-operational hours.

“We really are planning on doing this every weekend, but it will only be open on Saturday and Sunday after we open Thanksgiving weekend,” he explained. “We’ll probably close during Christmas week and re-open in January. We hope it goes really well because we have another 8,000 square feet of space we want to open in February.”

Woodard, like many other business owners in his community, wants to see Vidor grow and prosper and Triangle Trade Days is another way to reach that goal.

“We think this will help bring people to our town and let them see what we have to offer,” Woodard added. “I’ve had a good response from people so far, and I think it is a good thing for the community.”
