Book Review: A Civil War Story

ORANGE — There is more to the history of a war than the battles won and lost on the fields.

A Civil War Story, by Doug Graney of Houston, gives insight to the lives of families and friends torn apart as the country divided.

Two neighboring families became close in the years prior to the war and discover unexpected obstacles as the war breaks out.

The story is shows what happens to the two families before, during and after the war giving an insight to the emotions and situations people faced during the times.

This is not a story about plantations and cotton fields but about two ranchers trying to survive the times while providing for their families. Each family had a son, one fought for the Union while the other fought for the Confederacy and each engaged to the other’s sister.

The story is not just from the soldiers point of view but does express their concerns and fears. The story is about friends and families torn apart as a result of the war and the how families survived.

The book does personalize actual battles of the Civil War, but the story focuses on the people and their story.

This book entertains while giving insight to the era.

A Civil War Story, 161 pages, published by Xlibris Corporation in March 2013.

The book is available at www.Xlibris.com.
