Special to The Leader
The Orange Leader

The Little Cypress-Mauriceville High School Student Council has been recognized by the Texas Association of Student Councils (TASC) for outstanding achievement in 2012-2013 and received the following awards: Outstanding Student Council, DASH (Drugs, Alcohol, Safety and Health), Energy and Environment Award, Pride and Patriotism Award, and Community Service Sweepstakes Award.

According to a TASC press release, “Fewer than 20% of TASC member schools are recognized in one or more area, so this is quite an accomplishment of which your school can be proud.” LC-M HS Student Council has frequently received multiple awards from TASC and has been active in the State organization as officer schools in recent years. Stacey Smith, Student activities Coordinator, is the sponsor.

TASC is a non-profit serving high school and middle level student councils in Texas. Sponsored by the Texas Association of Secondary School Principals, its purposes are to develop leadership abilities in students, promote democracy as a way of life, and uphold high standards for local councils. With over 1300 member schools, it is the largest state student leadership organization in the US.
