System in Gulf now Tropical Storm Karen

The Orange Leader

— As of 8 a.m. Thursday, National Hurricane Center has upgraded the system in the southeastern Gulf is now Tropical Storm Karen. The track forecast still calls for it to head toward southeast Louisiana/Mississippi/Alabama by this weekend, according to information distributed by Roger Erickson, warning coordination meteorologist for the National Weather Service in Lake Charles.

Tropical Storm Karen has a chance of becoming a weak hurricane before landfall.

The main impact for southeast Texas and southwest and south central Louisiana is tides running one to one and a half foot above normal today through Saturday. This will result in minor coastal flooding. A coastal flood advisory will likely be issued today.
