Orange County Sheriff’s Office deputies prevented large quantities of drugs from hitting the streets.
A deputy stopped a vehicle with Tennessee license plates at approximately 10 a.m. Monday on the eastbound lane of Interstate 10 near the 864 mile marker.
A search of the vehicle resulted in the discovery of 21 pounds of synthetic marijuana, white powder substance believed to be cocaine, and two 16 oz bottles which contained liquid codeine.
The driver of the vehicle was identified as George Woods, 49, of Glynn, LA. The front seat passenger was identified as Joe Edwards Jones, Jr., 36, of Port Allen, LA.
Jones fled the scene on foot while deputies were interviewing the two men.
A lengthy search of the area was conducted but Jones was not located. The driver of the vehicle, George Woods was arrested for Possession of Liquid Codeine, Felony 3, Possession of Synthetic Marijuana , State Jail Felony.
Woods was transported to the Orange County Correctional Facility and bonds were set at $70,000. Woods has since posted bond.
Charges against Joe Edward Jones Jr. are pending including evading arrest or detention, State Jail Felony.
