Food services businesses received surprise inspections from the Orange County Health Code Inspector every six months. One such business includes organizations providing lunch for the economically disadvantaged in the community such as Mt. Olive Baptist Church, 106 West Park Ave., Orange. While such locations experience a surprise visit as another food service business, those kitchens are not given a score.
“I visit each one,” James Scales, health inspector said. “It is more tell me what you are doing and if they are doing something wrong, we correct it.”
Scales said the same inspection is performed as any location but a score is not given.
No violations were found during the inspection at Mt. Olive Baptist Church.
Domino’s Pizza, 7166 North Hwy. 87, Orange, received a health score of 87 out of a possible 100 during a recent health code inspection. Demerits included an employee drink without a lid and straw, no certified food manager on staff, grease trap overflowing, and ovens in need of being cleaned.
Happy Donuts, 985 West Roundbunch Road in Bridge City, received a score of 88. Demerits included sausage, egg and boudin at unsafe temperatures, using the pan liners multiple times for kolaches, and wall throughout in need of being cleaned of old foods.
Romano’s 8.31 Italian Restaurant, 1202 North 16th Street in Orange, received a health score of 89. Demerits included canned goods and onions stored on the floors, the need to date and label all foods inside the coolers and freezers, several areas in need of being cleaned of old food and trash and the need to discard broken and unused equipment.
Moz Grill inside Crawdad’s #8, 4080 Interstate 10 West in Orange, received a score of 90 during a recent inspection. Demerits included not having a mop sink installed, several dead bugs found near the back door area, and several areas I need of being cleaned of old food and dirt.
Crawdad’s #8, 4080 Interstate 10 West in Orange, received a score of 96 for sandwiches in the front cooler in need of being dated.
Dollar General #4640, 1390 North Main Street in Vidor, received a 93 during a recent inspection. Demerits included several expired food items on the shelves, and the floors inside the storage area in need of being cleaned of old trash and dirt.
On Your Way Too, 110 South Main Street in Vidor, received a score of 96 for several expired food items on the shelves.
Subway #3353, 2809 MacArthur Drive in Orange, received a 97 for the need to have a certified food manager on staff. The restaurant was given 30 days to obtain the certificate.
Laredos Mexican Restaurant, 12181 Hwy. 62 North in Mauriceville, received a score of 97 for the need to clean old dirt and food from the back door area and behind the grill.
Healthy Ways Café, 160 Vernon Street in Vidor, received a 97 for several gnats found throughout.
Suzie’s Concessions, 985 North Main Street in Vidor, received a health score of 97 out of a possible 100 for the need to clean the area around the fryers of old grease.
