Sometimes a coat or blanket is a luxury for a person. The freezing weather are turning that luxury into a need as the temperatures remain at freezing for the area through Wednesday.
Every day, services such as Orange Christian Services and Salvation Army are receiving calls for much needed winter coats and blankets.
“We have been blessed with coats and blanket donations,” Orange Christian Services Executive Director Judy Jenson said. “We run short on blankets. We will get a supply and they are gone in a matter of days.”
Orange Christian Services located at 2518 West Park Ave. in Orange offers clients one coat and blanket between October 1 and March 1 each year.
Orange Christian Services closed on Tuesday due to the inclement weather but expects to reopen on Wednesday.
Captain Michael Cox of Salvation Army said there are more coats than blankets available.
“I cannot guarantee what sizes we have right now,” Cox said. “We do have certain sizes and a few blankets.”
Cox said the center is still accepting donations of gently used, clean coats and blankets.
Donations can be dropped off at the Salvation Army located at 1950 MLK Drive in Orange.
“We are seeing mostly families in need of coats and blankets,” Cox said. “If they are in need, they can stop by.”
