Republican Party to hold debate for OC Judge candidates

VIDOR — The March Primary election is only six weeks away and it will be very active for voters on the Republican ballot in Orange County.

The Orange County Republican Party invites the public to attend its first debate event in advance of the March 4 Primary Election. The debate will be held at 6:30 p.m., Tuesday, Jan. 28, at the Raymond Gould Community Center, 385 Claiborne in Vidor.

According to Zach Johnson, the chairperson of the Orange County Republican Party, this debate will feature the four candidates seeking the party nomination for Orange County Judge. Those candidates are Brint Carlton, John Dubose, Mike Hamilton and Mike White.

“This is the first of hopefully two debates with the candidates for Orange County Judge,” Johnson said. “We hope to hold another one in a few weeks on the east side of the county.”

Dubose, 67, is the former Orange County Commissioner of Precinct 3. Hamilton, 52, is the former State Representative of District 19.

White, 58, is the former Sheriff of Orange County. Carlton, 31, currently works for the Orange County District Attorney’s Office.

Johnson said the Orange County Republican Party has opted to hold a debate among the candidates for Orange County Judge because the next county judge will be the Republican Party nominee, since there is not a Democratic Party candidate this year.

“This is the first time the Orange County Republican Party has had a say-so in the race for Orange County Judge,” Johnson added. “So we want to give the public the opportunity to meet the candidates and ask questions of the candidates, one of which will be their next Orange County Judge.”
