VIDEO: Elton John sets date for Ford Arena

BEAUMONT — Arguably one of the greatest musical talents in history is returning to Southeast Texas.

Sir Elton John will perform on Wednesday, March 12, at Ford Arena in Beaumont. Tickets are $69 - $99 and go on sale at 10 a.m., Friday, Jan. 24 at all Ticketmaster outlets, including the Ford Park box office, HEB on Dowlen Road in Beaumont, online at and charge by phone at 800-745-3000.

John Hughes, the general manager of the SMG operated Ford Park facility in Beaumont, was ecstatic following the announcement of the Elton John concert.

“Elton John is by far the single most requested act by fans since our venue opened in 2003,” Hughes said. “He is one of the top-selling artists of all time, and, in my opinion, this solidifies (Ford Park) as a world class venue because he doesn’t just play anywhere.”

John, who last performed locally on April 25, 2000 in a sold out show at the Montagne Center on the campus of Lamar University, is touring in support of his September 2013 release, “The Diving Board.” The CD peaked at No. 4 on the Billboard Top 200 albums chart and features the singles “Home Again” and “Mexican Vacation.”

During his career, Elton John has released 31 studio albums and four live albums. He has amassed 35 gold records and 25 platinum albums during his five decade-long career, which includes more than 250 million record sold around the world.

He is best known for multitude of hit songs, including 32 No. 1 singles, such as “Crocodile Rock,” “Philadephia Freedom,” “Bennie and the Jets,” “Don’t Go Breaking My Heart.”

Other hits tunes include “I’m Still Standing,” “Rocket Man, “Goodbye Yellow Brick Road,” “Candle in the Wind,” “I Guess That’s Why They Call it the Blues,” “Sad Songs (Say So Much)” and “Candle in the Wind.”

“We were able to make this happen through SMG’s relationship with Live Nation,” Hughes added. “That relationship has been a big part of why we have been able to bring in some phenomenal concerts over the last 10 years such as Trans-Siberian Orchestra, 3 Doors Down, Cher, Hilary Duff, Kid Rock, Jason Aldean and others.”

Hughes believes the Elton John will sell out and could set a record a for the quickest sell out event at the Ford Park facility. Hughes is also excited as the sheer spectacle of the concert will include Elton John bringing his state-of-the-art “million dollar” stage production to Beaumont.

“The community should be proud of this event on many levels,” Hughes said. “ Not just in terms of revenue and economic impact for the area, but also in terms of pure entertainment.”
