Local Author Meet and Greet Book Signing Event features Orange talent

KIRBYVILLE — A library is not only is an opportunity to find one’s favorite books but a chance to meet local authors.

The Kirbyville Public Library is hosting the second annual Local Author Meet and Greet Book Signing Event 1 p.m. - 5 p.m. Friday, January 24, at the Community House at 304 South Elizabeth, Kirbyville, Texas. The event has grown since last year when fifteen authors attended to approximately twenty-five this year including Elizabeth Ludwig and Frances Collins, both of Orange.

“The event has outgrown our little library so we are hosting it next door,” Circulation Librarian Pearl Phillips said.

Ludwig, author of the Edge of Freedom series, is returning this year.

“The library wanted to try something new last year,” Ludwig said. “I am excited to be asked back. The town was very supportive of the event.”

Ludwig said she enjoyed the one on one of the event as it gave readers a chance to ask questions of the writers that they would not normally have an opportunity to ask.

“If they have not read you work before they can ask about the particular genre you write,” Ludwig said. “If they have read your work, it makes it more fun as they ask questions about the characters.”

Ludwig is currently awaiting the release of the third and final installment of the Edge of Freedom series, Tide and Tempest.

The series is the first time Bethany House Publishers released a historical suspense genre.

Frances Collins, author of Seashell Prisoners, will attend the event for the first time this year.

“I am excited about attending,” Collins said. “I have had such a wonderful response to the book.”

Collins said she was surprised to find so many men had found the book appealing and helpful.

“I am not your typical author,” Collins said. “I never wanted to be an author and I was not a reader until in my 50s.”

Collins said she wrote Seashell Prisoners as an inspirational book to help others.

“I wanted to help them get out of the problem and move forward,” Collins said. “When  a person goes through something, they think they are the only person in the world in that situation. But they are not.”

Seashell Prisoners tells the story the case of a Mauriceville grandmother who kidnapped her granddaughter in the early 90’s and her development in her faith in God.

A new author, Robin Stark, of Jasper, will also be among those participating in the event.

“I am excited about meeting with other authors,” Stark, author of Haldona: Land of Mignon said. “I have met some already at writer’s guilds.”

Stark is currently writing her next book.
