Crime rates continue a downward trend in Orange

ORANGE — Crime rates drop in Orange for crimes against persons and crimes against property for 2012.

The Orange Police Department annual report shows family violence reports were down at 111 with a report filed in 2012 compared to 126 filed reports in 2011.

Crimes against persons with a report filed was down with 339 reports in 2012 compared to 387 in 2011 and 416 reports in 2010.

Crimes against a person include murder, sexual assault, robbery, family violence, aggravated assault, assault, threats and kidnapping.

Sexual assault reported was less in 2012 with 12 reported compared to 14 reported in 2011.

There were 15 less assaults reported in 2012 with 104 reported compared to 119 in 2011.

Crimes against property showed a significant drop in thefts with 182 filed reports in 2012 compared to 353 in 2011 and 585 in 2010.

Reports filed for criminal mischief also decreased with 171 filed in 2012 compared to 267 in 2011.

Crimes against property include burglary of a home, burglary of a business, burglary of a coin op, theft, auto theft, criminal mischief, trespassing, and auto burglary.

The number of calls for service even saw a decrease with 28,234 for 2012 compared to 29,314 in 2011.

There was an increase in the number of citations issued with 3,555 in 2012 compared to 2,197 in 2011 and 2,019 in 2010.
