Nederland man sentenced for bank robberies

BEAUMONT — A 32-year-old Nederland man has been sentenced to federal prison for bank robbery in the Eastern District of Texas, announced U.S. Attorney John M. Bales.

David Randall Terrell, II, pleaded guilty on Apr. 4, 2013, to two counts of bank robbery and was sentenced to 77 months in federal prison on Tuesday by U.S. District Judge Ron Clark. Terrell was also ordered to restitution.

According to information presented in court, on Jan. 14, 2013, Terrell robbed the Mid-South Bank on North Main Street in Vidor. Terrell handed a note to a teller demanding money and left the bank with $3,800. Four days later on Jan. 18, 2013, Terrell robbed the Compass Bank on Interstate 10 in Beaumont. Terrell handed the teller a note demanding money and left the bank with $620. Video surveillance photographs of both bank robberies were circulated by the media resulting in multiple calls identifying the bank robber as Terrell.

A federal grand jury returned an indictment on Jan. 23, 2013 charging Terrell with two counts of bank robbery.

This case was investigated by the FBI, the Vidor Police Department and the Beaumont Police Department and prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney John Craft.
