Garrett ends successful term as GOACC chair

ORANGE — Jarren Garrett is leaving his post as Chairman of the Board after one of the most successful years in history for the chamber of commerce.

Jarren Garrett serves the community as the Chief Administrative Officer of Baptist Hospital in Orange. He also happens to be the Chairman of the Board for the Greater Orange Area Chamber of Commerce. He will complete his time in the position following the chamber’s annual dinner banquet, which will be held on Tuesday, Dec. 10, at the Sunset Grove Country Club in Orange. The social gathering begins at 6 p.m. with dinner following at 6:30 p.m.

Garrett has helped the chamber and its Board of Directors oversee one of the most successful years, and events, in chamber history. Especially due to the success of the Bassmaster Elite Series “Sabine River Challenge” held March 14 - March 17, 2013.

“Our theme for the year was ‘Catch It’ and that’s just what we did with the Bassmaster tournament,” Garrett said. “We wanted to catch the spirit of community and everyone came together to make the Bassmaster tournament a huge success.”

Garrett said the people with BASS, the tournament tour organizers, were extremely pleased at how successful the event was. This was due in large part to the cooperation of so many separate organizations, cities and people.

“The pride I have on how this community and county came together is amazing,” Garrett explained. “The Stark Foundation, Orange County, and all of the cities and the chambers in the county did such a fantastic job. It’s definitely something we will remember.”

Garrett said other successful events such as the chamber’s annual golf tournament and its participation in the “Showdown on the Sabine” tunnel boat races could not have been accomplished without the hard work and dedication of Ida Schossow, Greater Orange Area Chamber of Commerce president, and her staff.

“They have done an outstanding job, and we are proud of them for all they have accomplished this year,” he added.

These high profile events and activities have helped the Greater Orange Area Chamber of Commerce to thrive and grow during 2013 and Garrett believes the trend will continue in the next year under the new leadership of Shawn Sparrow.

“Success breeds upon itself, and that success carried us through the year,” Garrett said. “The Bassmaster tournament has been stepping stone for us to do bigger and better things in the future. It’s been a very fun and exciting year, and it’s amazing what you can accomplish when everyone works together. It’s something I will always remember.”
