NAACP to hold candidates forum on Tuesday

ORANGE — The May 10 general election is just around the corner and one organization wants to make sure voters are well informed on candidates in two specific races.

The Orange branch of the NAACP will hold a candidates forum from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., Tuesday, April 22, at the West Orange-Cove Education Service Center, 902 W. Park in Orange. The event will feature candidates seeking seats on city council for the City of Orange, as well as candidates seeking positions for the West Orange-Cove Consolidated Independent School District’s Board of Trustees.

The event, which will facilitated by Franklin Gans and Kianna McKinley, will feature three candidates seeking the Position 6 council seat for the City of Orange. Candidates include incumbent Charles Guillory, as well as challengers Cullin Smith and Larry Spears Jr.

The race for the West Orange-Cove CISD Board of Trustees will feature four candidates hoping to win the two open seats. Candidates include Ricky Blagburn, Ruth H. Hancock, Shirley (Martin) Joseph and Sarah Jefferson-Simon.

Repeated calls to Jackie Mayfield, president of the Orange Branch of the NAACP, were unsuccessful.
