ORANGE — The Orange County Health Code and Compliance Inspector recently visited 20 food service businesses in the county with 13 receiving a score of 100 for no violations present during the inspections. Ruby’s Cafe, 18017 State Hwy. 62 South in Orange, passed a pre-opening inspection.

Church’s Chicken, 7409 Interstate 10 East in Orange, received an 80 out of a possible 100 during a recent inspection. The restaurant received demerits for the following violations: The need of hair restraints, an employee with artificial nails, hair found on the fry scoop, several gnats at the dry storage area and for not having a certified food manager on staff. The restaurant was given 30 to get certification. The report noted an employee did remove the fry scoop and clean it during the inspection.

A+ Seafood, 1609 16th Street in Orange, received a 93 for the need to date all foods inside the coolers and freezers as well as no soap found at the hand-washing station.

West Orange Middle School received a 97 and given 30 days to acquire certification for a certified food manager. Orange County Health Code and Compliance Inspector James Scales said in a previous article published by the Orange Leader that the district was aware of the situation and addressing the issue. The district uses a private company for food services. The school district is using a new company this year and in the process of acquiring the required Certified Food Manager certificate.

Texas Country Store #2, 7411 Interstate 10 in Orange, received a 97 during a recent inspection for mold found on the drink dispensers and slushi machines.
