That was theme of the 2013-2014 St. Mary Catholic School Yearbook Cover contest where an image of Mary holding baby Jesus, drawn by 8th grader Olivia Fuselier won first place.
St. Mary Catholic School has not published a yearbook since approximately 2006.
“Everyone who takes art classes was excited about the contest,” Fuselier said. “I think it is cool my picture won because it will be there forever.”
Fuselier said she was inspired for the image she drew because she had not seen one before.
Special Achievement Winner Sydney Schmitt said it was nice to know her drawing will be in the year book.
Publications and Spanish teacher Cherry Vigil said Schmitt’s drawing will be used as a background on the pages in the yearbook while the 2nd and 3rd place drawings will be used inside the back cover of the yearbook.
Vigil said that several students submitted multiple times, including Schmitt who had approximately 35 entries.
“It made judging difficult,” Vigil said. “Each entry was given a number so the judges would not know who drew which until the winners were announced.”
Second place winner is Lauren Abrego of West Orange. Third place winner is Teanna Tran.
Those interested in purchasing a yearbook can contact the school at 409-883-8913.
