Please forgive me – Let’s start love over

ORANGE — Hurt people, hurt people and the saddest thing about this statement is that most hurt people who hurt people, either don’t know their hurt or refuse to address their hurt and look to make others hurt because of their hurt.

Let me ask this question, if hurt people, hurt people then would love people, love people?

It’s time for the body of Christ to begin to truly love people the way Christ loves us. Is there any one of us who have not, at one time or another experienced some type of love? All of us have experienced love, but over the course of time we have not been taught how to love ourselves. In our natural state of selfishness we grow up looking for others to show us that which we ourselves should be able to show ourselves. What happens is that we are shown and taught how to love others but never taught how to love ourselves. Jesus tells us in John 13:34

“A new commandment I give to you that you love one another as I have loved you, that you also love one another.” (NKJV)

I look at this verse and I asked myself why Jesus said “a new commandment?” What happen to the old commandment?

As I researched I found Matthew 22 and Mark 12 speaking of Jesus saying to the scribes who were attempting to trick him, that we are to first love God with all our heart, soul and mind and secondly love our neighbor as our self. When we look at the writing in John, Jesus does not address how we are to love God because there is only one way.

Jesus addresses how we are to love our neighbors. He went from love them like we love ourselves, to loving them as He has loved us, taking away the “condition” factor. Just as there is only one true way to love God, Jesus mandates the process of the only true way to love each other and that is by imitating the love Jesus has for us.

Let me take this time to apologize to anyone and everyone that I may have hurt by not showing Godly, Christ like love.

Let me also apologize on behalf of the First Church of God-Orange for any and all hurt that we, as a church body, may have caused.

Furthermore, let me apologize to any and everyone who may have been hurt by any member of the body of Christ. We who are Christians, disciples of Jesus Christ, need to take a closer look at ourselves to see if we truly love ourselves.

In some cases we either don’t or have not have loved ourselves.

During that time, we may have hurt others and caused them to leave the church and the body of Christ.

James 4:17 says “for him that knows to do good and does not do it, to him it is sin.”

How would you feel on the Day of Judgment if God does not show us love because we have not shown everyone “love”? Or if God shows us the same identical type and style of love that we have shown the person(s) that we care for the least?

There is a song by Miles Jaye, that simply states, “Let’s start love over.”

I ask you, can/will you forgive me and let’s start love over?
