Brady speaks out on National Adoption Day

THE WOODLANDS, Texas — A national politician with ties to Orange County had reason to express his opinion on a heartfelt subject this week.

U.S. Rep. Kevin Brady (Texas - 8th District) released a statement on Friday on the subject of National Adoption Day, which is Saturday, Nov. 17, and a subject near and dear to Brady’s heart.

“This is a topic that is deeply personal for my wife, Cathy, and I,” Brady said. “Two different women found themselves in difficult circumstances and made the life-changing decision to put their child up for adoption. Because of that, Cathy and I have two precious sons, Will and Sean. I can tell you that there is no greater joy than being called Dad and that having a family is the greatest gift of all.

“Almost 6,400 children are in foster care in Texas, waiting to find a ‘Forever Family,’” Brady continued. “The need for families to open up their homes to these children is greater than ever, especially for older children, siblings and minorities. I urge you to consider making a choice that will forever change a child’s life and one that will forever change your life.”

Every year, the Saturday before Thanksgiving is recognized as National Adoption Day. More than 300 events are held across the nation, including all 50 states, at which families finalize the adoption of children previously in foster care.

This Saturday, Nov. 17th, marks the 13th year for Adoption Day, which is part of Adoption Month. More than 40,000 children have found permanent families on this day over the past 12 years, and an additional 4,500 are expected to be adopted this Saturday.
