Need a miraacle? Trust God for it

ORANGE — Before graduating from Lamar University I was required to take a course in Statistics. My fear and dread of signing up for the summer session was very obvious as I slid into the fourth chair of row three. The room was quickly filled to capacity with young men and women geniuses.  I stared straight ahead waiting for the professor to begin. Although he spoke English it sounded like the language they probably spoke in Lower Slobovia. My only relief came in knowing this shortened summer session would eat up a whole semester. Meanwhile, I knew I would walk through “the valley of the shadow of death.” And I felt no comfort.

One day, about mid-way through the shortened session, we were asked to participate in a class-wide exercise. Everyone was laughing and having a good time with the exercise. I died! As soon as class was dismissed I was outside, stumbling through the grass toward the parking lot. My heart was at my feet. I was an utter failure. I was worthless. I was stupid. It was every dark, disastrous, thing that could be named or could be felt.

I am wondering if anyone who is reading these words has ever felt as low, worthless, and stupid? If so, let me talk to you: If you have read this column before you have heard me say: “If you get knocked down six times, get up seven!”

I was knocked down six times and run over by a Sherman Tank. By God’s grace, however, I got up. Yes, I went to class the next day and finished the course by completing an assigned project.  I knew beyond any doubt that I had failed Statistics class. I went to the Professor’s office to learn my grade, to hear the really bad news I knew he would tell me. Do you believe in miracles? Well, I was part of a miracle! A literal, full-fledged, absolute gold-standard miracle happened. I sat with the Professor as he pulled out his papers. He looked at me and smiled, and said, “Well, Charles you’ve done a good job. You have made a grade of “B” on the final test.”

Don’t ask how—it was a MIRACLE.  Why do I tell all this?

I tell it to say, “God will make a way, when there seems to be no way.”

God is faithful to answer prayer.  Trust Him!
