Commissioners Court donates $1k to Lower Sabine-Neches Soil & Water Conservation District

ORANGE — Orange County Commissioners Court donated $1,000 to the Lower Sabine-Neches Soil & Water Conservation District.

The funds will assist over 30 schools with activities with 4-H clubs. There are over 300 children involved.

County Judge Carl Thibodeaux said this was something the county has done over the years to help.

Director of Emergency Management Jeff Kelley told the court that the system the county uses for the hurricane system will be several impacted by the changes required by the state.

“We designed our own model and it is now used across the country,” Kelley said. “However, all the systems in Texas are not compatible.”

Kelley said the county will need to decide if it wishes to maintain two systems.

Kelley also said that every written plan in the office would need to be rewritten or would not be able to be approved next year.

The county approved filling a part time driver for the Transportation Department. The position is open due to a driver retiring Friday, April 12. The court also approved the hiring of an assistant director of transportation. The position became open when Donna Minter was promoted to director during last week’s meeting.

The court approved stops signs on Woodridge Drive at Kusnir Lane and Woodridge Drive at Stoneridge Drive. The signs will be installed by the Orange County Road and Bridge Department.

Thibodeaux gave an update on the testimony the county gave last week on the Emergency Services District (EDC) bill in Austin.

“It went well,” Thibodeaux said. “No one was against the bill. Now we wait to see if it makes it on the calendar.”
