WO-S journalism team, academic competitors earn District honors

WEST ORANGE — Five West Orange-Stark High School students will advance to the UIL Academic Regional Meet on April 20.

The WO-S Journalism team won first place team honors at the UIL District Meet, earning regional berths for three. Two other WO-S students earned advancement to the regional meet in prose.

West Orange–Stark academic competitors earned the following honors: Casey Chapman placed fifth in Current Events, first in News Writing, first in Feature Writing, third in Editorial Writing and sixth in Headlines.

Nathan Wood placed second in Prose and was also chosen as Best Actor in the one act play competition. Ahmari Finister placed third in Prose.

Nathan Platt placed fourth in News Writing, fifth in Editorial Writing and third in Headline Writing. Miranda Miller placed second in Headline Writing.

Brian Buzbee was chosen as alternate cast for his One Act play participation.

In addition, the team of Chapman, Platt and Miller won the first place Journalism team award. Students must place first, second, or third in an individual event in order to qualify for the Regional Academic Meet. Brandy Bonnin is the West Orange-Stark High School prose sponsor and one act play director; Meri Elen Jacobs is the West Orange-Stark High School Journalism sponsor.
