VIDOR — A collision between a motorcycle and an SUV has claimed the life of a Mauriceville man.

David Hiram Tally, 36, died from injuries sustained Tuesday when his motorcycle struck an SUV on State Highway 12 at North Creekwood Street in Vidor.

According to Chief Dave Shows of the Vidor Police Department, Tally, a resident of Mauriceville, was traveling west on State Highway 12 toward Vidor on his motorcycle when a SUV, which was traveling east on Highway 12, attempted to turn left onto North Creekwood Street in front of Tally’s motorcycle.

Shows said Tally and his motorcycle collided with the truck and were thrown into a nearby ditch.

A medical helicopter was called to the scene to transport Tally to a Beaumont-area hospital, but plans changed because of the severity of his injuries.

“It was determined to be more beneficial to transport him by ambulance because there was more room for emergency crews to work on his injuries inside the ambulance than it would have been inside the helicopter,” Shows explained.

The medical personnel from Air Rescue rode inside the ambulance with the personnel from Acadian Ambulance in an attempt to help save the man’s life.

The driver of the SUV has not been identified, but, according to reports, did not suffer any injuries. Shows said the investigation is ongoing.
