Thanks to a Mid-County church, Bridge City residents will have one less Thanksgiving holiday worry.
Members of Triumph Church in Nederland are giving away more than 750 boxes filled with food items to prepare a Thanksgiving meal, including the turkey. Each box of food is expected to feed about 8 to 10 people.
Church members have been working on collecting the items and working with the Southeast Texas Food Bank to get the necessary holiday treats.
The boxes will be given away from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday at the Wal-Mart parking lot.
In addition, the church has been helping residents repair Bridge City residences affected by the storm by hauling sheet rock and hanging doors.
“This is just another step we can do to help the people of Bridge City,” said Kirk Ellender, associate pastor of Triumph Church.
Ellender asks people picking up a basket to bring identification for proof they live in the areas affected by Hurricane Ike.
