Vidor man given 10 years for acts with child

Randall Joshua Scott Boyd, 20, of Vidor was found guilty Wednesday of two counts of aggravated sexual assault of a child.

Boyd was sentenced to five years on each count. Judge Don Burgess elected to “stack” the sentences for a total of 10 years in the Department of Criminal Justice. The punishment range on the first degree felony is 5 to 99 years or life in prison.

It took a jury less than an hour to determine the sentence. As the verdict was read, supporters of Boyd sobbed.

The 2007 charges stem from an incident while at a Vidor residence where Boyd allegedly sexually assaulted a four-year-old girl.

Following the jury finding him guilty, Boyd took the stand during the punishment phase.

Boyd denied committing the crimes. Although he gave a full confession of the incidents to Vidor police, he said he did so because he was “scared”, “nervous” and “lacked intelligence.”

Boyd also said on the stand, he had never been in trouble before and this would “definitely” be his last.

Boyd testified his actions of touching the girl inappropriately, were “accidental”. Orange County District Attorney Phillip Smith asked Boyd if the two times he had committed the action was accidental. Boyd replied, “yes.”

Boyd will be required to serve at least half of his sentence before he will first be eligible for parole.
